Huon Valley Youth Theatre Group brings The Storytelling Tent to life! For seven years, this welcoming group has nurtured young performers aged 8-18 in all aspects of theatre. Our younger festival-goers can enjoy hourly storytelling sessions led by the group, featuring stories from local Huon author Sonya Strong alongside classic favourites. Sessions run throughout each day—pop in for free and let imagination soar!
Huon Valley Theatre's youth drama group began about 7 years ago when Saahza Hensley regularly found herself with 12 enthusiastic young visitors at her home following a production.
Realising the youth needed a dedicated space to meet and create together, she founded the drama group.
The group provides a friendly, inclusive and safe environment for children aged 8 to 18 to learn drama through games. Participants explore all aspects of theatrical production from acting to the technical side such as lights and audio.
The group meets once a month, with a youth production held once a year. Older members are being mentored to direct one-act plays, while a younger member is being mentored to direct their first major production.
